Schedule Your Appointment
Call our Pensacola, Crestview or Mary Esther office, and let us know if you are in pain so we can see you quickly. Same-day appointments are available for urgent extractions.
Exam and X-Rays
We examine the tooth and take digital X-rays or a 3D scan to see roots, nerves and sinuses. If the tooth can be saved, we will say so and offer that option first.
Sedation and Numbing
Tell us about any blood thinners or medical conditions so we can plan safely. You choose oral or IV sedation, and the area is fully numbed before we begin.
The Extraction or Procedure
Simple extractions loosen and lift the tooth, while surgical extractions use a small incision for impacted or broken teeth. Grafting or an immediate implant is done in the same visit when planned.
Recovery and Follow-Up
You go home with written instructions and, after sedation, a responsible adult to drive you. We schedule a follow-up to check healing and plan any tooth replacement.
Maintaining Results After Your Visit
After your oral surgery at Comfort Dental Care & Orthodontics, follow these steps to heal comfortably and protect the site:
- Bite on gauze as directed and rest for the remainder of the day
- Eat soft foods like yogurt, mashed potatoes and smoothies for the first 24 to 48 hours
- Do not use straws, smoke or rinse forcefully, since any of these can dislodge the clot and cause dry socket
- Take prescribed medication as directed, and if you take blood thinners follow the plan we set with you
Most patients are back to normal routines in a couple of days, and full healing of the site takes about one to two weeks.

Frequently Asked Questions About Oral Surgery
Will the extraction hurt?
The area is fully numbed with local anesthesia, and sedation is available if you want to relax through the procedure. Afterward you may feel some soreness for a few days, which is manageable with the medication we recommend.
How long does a tooth extraction take?
A simple extraction usually takes 20 to 40 minutes. A surgical extraction for an impacted or broken tooth may take 45 to 60 minutes, plus a little extra time if sedation is used.
Do I need my wisdom teeth removed?
Not always. We recommend removal when wisdom teeth are impacted, crowding other teeth, causing pain or trapping bacteria. An X-ray shows where they sit and whether they are likely to cause trouble.
Can I get an implant at the same time as my extraction?
Often, yes. If the socket is healthy and there is enough bone, we place the implant in the same visit. If not, a bone graft protects the socket and the implant follows once it has healed.
What should I know before surgery if I take blood thinners?
Tell us about every medication at your consultation. We may coordinate with your physician, and we will never ask you to stop a medication without their guidance. We also plan extra measures to control bleeding during and after the procedure.
